La Cage Aux Folles was the first show I worked on at the Barrington Stage Company. It was a massive show with two levels, three prosceniums, three rooms, and multiple signs (and suns) that would fly in and out. The floor was a process that involved a teal marble sponge rolled scumble, then an alternating tile pattern made with a stencil and a dark blue spray.
The walls were done with a maroon and black scumble, then multiple wallpaper stencils, and gold linning.
The brickwork was a mix of sponge rolls and sprays of brick colors on a black stone pulp base.
The prosceniums were done with gold leaf, gold paint, and black gloss, while the birdcage was hand welded by the very talented Haley Sanchez, then we covered it with a red base, then many layers of gold specialty paint.
The moon was hand carved from pink foam by the charge and myself, then I hand cut and snapped five gallons of plexy glass peices and we hot glued every peice.
